When it comes to live platform, the first one that popped out in my mind is Alibaba’s Taobao Livestreaming platform; Taobao is one of the most popular e-commercial and digital streaming platforms in China. The fierce rising and growth of new media brought an unprecedented impact on every aspect of our lives. Today, we can shop almost everything online from fruits to vehicles with a few simple clicks. Taobao Livestreaming platform emerges in response to this trend as well as the increasing purchasing power among lower-tier cities.
Taobao Livestreaming platform allows customers to communicate with the host in real-time with chatbox. It also locate the link to purchase the commodity right beside the chatbox for a more convenient purchasing process. The interesting thing I noticed when I skimmed through different Taobao live streaming rooms is that sometimes the host will perform some weird/uncommon tests instead of introducing the characteristics of their commodities. In one live streaming room, the host squeezed a grapefruit with a hand in front of a camera closely. The juice split everywhere and everything was in mess. I understand he wants to prove to the customers that the grapefruit is juicy, but somehow I feel this action is a little bit over. It could be using a juicer or a blender, which can also tell the customers that the grapefruit is juicy, which is more visually comfortable to me. But I don’t think that would help him to draw much attention as he did.
Interactive Self-Portrait
I do not want to put myself in any specific category. I have multiple aspects. If you look from different windows at different time, you will see different views.
The video I choose is a clip from a brilliant web-based video shared platform. This platform allows people all around the world to upload scenes out of their windows and to share with others. It is wonderful to see changeable views at home especially at this extraordinary time.
